Firstly public speaking is not rocket science and you can do it right by following these steps.

1) Tailor your message to suit your target audience
2) Control your nerve by focusing on the audience and not yourself
3) Look up and not at your notes & maintain eye contact with your audience.
4) Vary your delivery tone & speed. Don't bore your audience
5) Make your speech interesting, concise, chatty and humorous whenever you can.
6) Keep going even though you trip over your words
7) Be yourself.
